PUBLIC ECHO

PUBLIC ECHO

A public space is repeatedly preserved on a twenty-four-hour acoustic delay-layer

Concept Piece No. II

Score:

The city council, or a local civic association, is asked to designate a public location for the work.

Sound is continuously recorded at this location. This sound is replayed exactly 24 hours later from the site of its recording. The microphone and speaker should be placed between 2.5 and 5 meters apart. Both are visible to the audience.

Proposed performance time: 20:00–20:05, daily. The schedule will remain unchanged throughout the performance period.

Playback occurs at full scale and in real time.

Recording and playback operate simultaneously.

No editing, selection, or archival storage is permitted. The work will only exist as a live, layered, sound piece for five minutes.

The work is shown every day of the performance period.

Notes

Concept: The previous day returns to the city, briefly becoming part of the acoustic environment as it exists in the moment. Every new recording preserves fading and morphing elements of every preceding day of the performance period.

Fee for performance: €500 per twenty-four hours; €1500 for a week; €3000 for three weeks. If longer, special prices can be negotiated.

Installation notes:

In dialogue with the artist, designated listening furniture such as a chair or a bench should be installed at the site.

Each instalment should be titled as follows:

Public Echo

(location), (duration of instalment) (specific remark)
