Invitations for The Grass Field Institute for Contemporary Listening.

Listen to the Void: Close your eyes, and listen to what is not there. Let the gaps in sound shape your awareness.

Resist the Label: Hear a sound. Resist naming it, defining it, or categorizing it. Let the sound exist without your control.

Question the Field: Walk through the space, asking nothing but why. Let the field answer with its presence.

Quiet Arrival: Walk into the field with no destination. Allow new sounds to continually change your direction. Walk until you experience no new sounds.

Breath and Ground: Stand still for five minutes. Feel your breath, feel the earth. Listen to both.

The Wind’s Voice: Close your eyes, turn your face to the wind, and listen to its story.

Listening Walk: Walk slowly, listen to your steps – listen as attentively as possible – keep walking until the sounds of your step be the only sounds you hear.

Sound Journaling: Find a quiet spot, listen for 10 minutes, and write down the sounds you hear – without editing or judgment.

Animal’s Ear: Lie down on the grass. Listen as if you were an animal – attentive, still, curious.

Echoing Presence: Make a sound, any sound, and then listen for its return.

Rhythms of the Field: Walk in rhythm with the rustling of the grass. Let it guide your movement and your listening.
