Prompt for Discovering Listening Places

Prompt for Discovering Listening Places

Close your eyes and take a moment to quiet the noise within and around you. Let your awareness stretch beyond the obvious sounds, reaching into the textures, vibrations, and silences that often go unnoticed.

Now, imagine a place for listening. It could be a real location from your memory, an overlooked corner of your daily life, or an entirely imagined space. What makes this place a site for listening?

Ask yourself:

What kind of attention lives here, and what is it orientated towards?

Who or what might you listen to in this place?

What are hopes and dreams of and for these places?

How might this place transform when approached with intention and care?

Write it down in a single, poetic sentence. Keep it simple, vivid, and specific. Let your place for listening resonate with possibility.

Repeat this exercise for a few moments, letting each place emerge organically. Explore how listening can unfold in the most unexpected or mundane spaces. When you’re done, look at your list. What do these places reveal about your relationship to listening – and to the world?
