Community Sites for Listening

What is a site for listening? Can listening take place everywhere? What premises for the site do listening ask for?

This Community Sites for Listening is a series of gestural interventions. A site as a gesture. It is an attempt to generate more space, claim sudden places/sites, for the value and practice of listening. As a gesture these sites’ function as safe-spaces, and reminders for the sacredness and caring of listening.

Setting-up Community Sites for Listening is an ongoing aspect of the project. An attempt to meet people, do registrations and expand the notions of ‘where to conduct listening’. Not all sites will be, or can be, documented, but here follows an ongoing documentation, and manual for setting-up the sites.

Manual for Community Sites for Listening (an attempt)

  • Any site will do, find one that ‘calls’ upon you
  • Mark the ‘boundaries’ of the site (as a gesture) (not a must)
  • Place yourself inside the site, and ask perhaps others to join
  • Offer your attention and care to the site (from now on a ‘community site’)
  • Discover and recognize how the site also is attentive towards your present – how just being on site generate boundless of responses between your body and the site
  • Feel free to invite new community members to the site, or leave it as a gesture for others to explore
