Resonant Ecologies: Attractor – Score for a Convivial Planetary Consciousness
This submission offers documentation of a live performance and an associated listening score. The score was developed as a result of a workshop held as part of the work, Attractor, created by artist Louise Mackenzie for the MOMENTUM13 Norway Biennale.
Attractor is a four-part work, comprising listening sculptures, live-streamed audio, a listening score and an invitation to respond. Copper sculptural microphones (microphlora) with sensory modes of attraction entice birds and insects close enough to be heard. Influenced by the aesthetics of field-recording, the microphlora collect and amplify the sounds of local species, broadcasting them live via internet radio.
The score is intended for use both in conjunction with, and independently of, Mackenzie’s listening sculptures, or microphlora, which broadcast sounds heard at a height of around 80cm above the ground in the apple garden of Galleri F15 in Jeløy, Moss.
The live performance is a vocal experiment created in collaboration with conductor Margarethe Ek and Moss Ensemble Consensus as a response to Mackenzie’s listening score. It provides an atmospheric account of 24-hours in the apple garden at Galleri F15, as interpreted by Moss Ensemble Consensus, following a participatory listening workshop led by Mackenzie.
